Tutorial: How to create a Halftone Border

Instructions:

1. First open up Adobe Photoshop 7.0. Then start of with the image you want to do the effect on. I'm going to use this one. [HERE].

2. Then using the Retangular Marquee Tool (M), select a portion of the image leaving a border like the example: [HERE].

3. Then while the marquee tool is in effect right click and select inverse. Now the image should look like this: [HERE].

4. Now hold down the shift button and click on the letter 'Q' for a quick mask and the image should look like this: [HERE].

5. Next to make the halftone effect. Go to Filter >> Pixelate >> Color Halftone... Like this: [HERE].

6. A window should open. Click 'ok' if the settings are already like this:
Max. Radius: 8 (Pixels) <-- (Changing the radius will affect the size of the circles)
Channel 1: 108
Channel 2: 162
Channel 3: 90
Channel 4: 45
Once you click ok the image should look like this: [HERE].

7. Then undo the quick mask by holding down the shift button and clicking on the letter 'Q'. NOw your image should look like this: [HERE].

8. Now while the image still looks like above click on the backspace button to erase the border and as a result give you a halftone border that looks like this: [HERE].

9. Lastly add a background, Flatten the image by going to Layers >> Flatten Image and you get an image like this: [HERE].

10. That is it. You have now made an image with a halftone border. You can make it better by adding a few brush patterns and other effects and layers. For the finished image below I used the glossy effect as one last touch.
